Who do you care about?
To all the fathers, brothers, uncles, and sons out there, this post is for you. Do you care about the rights of your mothers, sisters, and daughters? Do you value the work they do? I can't believe we are still talking about this in America in 2012. Seriously republicans? Is it fair to you that your mom does not earn the same wage as a man doing the same work of the same quality? Did you know that men and women DOING THE SAME JOB OF THE SAME QUALITY are not being paid the same? Currently, women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man works.Think about a family with a working mom for a minute--What do unequal wages do to that family relying on her paycheck? What about the husbands, sons, and elderly fathers that rely on that woman's paycheck? Seems ridiculous right? But did you know that Paul Ryan voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Act which makes it possible for women to fight back against unfair pay? What does Mitt Romney think? Well, like most things, he prefers to remain ambiguous. Is this fair to you? So I wonder who you care about--do you care about your mother, sister, and your daughter? Do you care about their families? When you vote this November, please consider the values of our republican candidates. Consider the millions of American women being discriminated against and the consequences this has on her family and our economy.
My amazing mom (with my brother)--the breadwinner in our family, joined a class action lawsuit when she found out she was short changed over $250,000 over the course of her career as a project manager working for King County. Because of the class action suit, she was rewarded a measly sum of less than $10,000. I wonder what she, and our family, would have done with the extra $240,000 that she never received? Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney don't care!
