I came across this intriguing word the other day... Hispanosphere. It relates to any place where the Hispanic culture abides. I wonder if there is a Caucasophere? Or Africanosphere? How about Arabosphere? I wonder which words first come to your mind when you think of each of those cultures? These words suggest that there is something universal about our culture that unites us and also separates us from others. No matter where we go in the world, we abide in this sphere of our culture.
What happens when we dwell in two cultures simultaneously? Is it possible to live fully in two cultures? Living as a Hispanic in the United States, we see that we are not fully American nor are we fully "Hispanic". Picking and choosing from both cultures excludes us from being fully accepted into either.
